Like human fingerprints, no two tigers ever have the same stripes, nor dogs’ and cats’ the same nose prints, and who knows what else. But, if we pay enough attention to our surroundings, we would find God’s ‘weirdness’ in his creations, down to the littlest of things.
God’s oddity is majestic in scope (in fact, man cannot fathom it), and the animals He’s created, in their great numbers and species, is a vast bizarre proof.
These are some of the oddest animal features man has discovered:
- Oysters can change their gender depending on which is best for mating; no surgery required.
- The male seahorse giving birth to its young; because there has to be an exception to every rule.
- Squirrels planting trees by ‘accidentally’ forgetting where they buried their nuts.
- Hippos secreting their own sunscreen/moisturiser.
- Flying fishes, enough said.
- Insect having ears on the legs (The Katydid).
- Or butterflies tasting with their feet?
And the best for last, turtles breathing out of their butts; because what’s life without whimsy.
What’s more shocking is, every ‘weird’ feature found in God’s creation is useful. His creations are perfect as He is, and everything is useful, even our misery.
The Bible tells the story of a man, born blind, whose predicament (blindness) was to show the glory of God on the day of his healing. This simply means that God allowed Him to remain blind well into adulthood so that His name could be glorified. Strange, isn’t it.
Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. (John 9:3).
And before you start querying God, here’s another quote from the Bible:
Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? (Romans 9:20).
In essence, we can ‘brand’ God odd, uncanny, strange … even, weird for His actions; but, who are we to question him.
Next time you feel short changed, or something bad happens and you feel the need to question God, remember how small you are compared to the world, and how small the world is compared to the galaxy, and the One Who’s responsible for its creation. It’s wisest to simply ask for His mercy (it endures forever), you can never run out of it.
