When you examine God’s works, in the past (the Bible and other inspired books) and present; the conclusion you would arrive at is that God is … Strange, Bizarre, Unusual, Uncanny, Mysterious and a personal favourite – unearthly, (meaning not of this world).
He confirms it in Isaiah 55:8 – 9:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (KJV)
Therefore, calling God weird should not be viewed in a negative tone; rather, it should be seen in a more positive light.
God’s ‘weirdness’ is outstanding, wonderful, marvellous … and you are one of the billions (perhaps trillions or much more than we can comprehend) of his works, even if you don’t have a relationship with him – yes, atheists too! His unearthliness is in everything He created.
Still in doubt?
Take Christmas, that stand-out birth that brought about the redemption of man; where a virgin conceived and gave birth to The Baby Boy, Jesus. God could have decided go about it in several other ways, and He’d still be awesome, because He just is; but, He chose to do it this way. A way which can only be regarded as a true masterpiece.
Why did God have to cause a virgin, Mary, to conceive the baby Jesus. There are several answers to that; some of which are:
- To fulfil the prophecy in Isaiah 7:14 – Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel
- A sign to know the Messiah
- Because He is THE Son of God; allowing for The Trinity.
- Proof of God’s creative perfection (because genius sounds too human)
Remember, the birth took place in a manger, a hotbed of germs harmful to a baby, but Jesus did not need penicillin (or any other kind of antibiotic), because The Almighty had sterilized the manger. I’d call that a wonderfully weird act.
Other posts from this new series – “God is Weird” – will show how magnificent, odd, unusual, unnatural … and weird Yahweh truly is. Celebrating Him through His gazillion works.
Thanks for visiting and God bless you.
